An alluring assortment of late 50s/early 60s black music that heralded the 60s soul explosion and this 4th volume, of a very successful series, collates many tracks that fall between other musical niches. Several are in-demand dancers on the Popcorn and R&B scenes: particularly Marv Johnson, Frank Minion, Della Reese and Hal Miller/5(2).

Bubblegum Classics, Vol. 4 is a retitled reissue of Varese's Soulful Pop collection. This is the kind of compilation that doesn't attract much critical attention, but is a pretty nifty concept: 17 songs from that are soul-pop at its poppiest and most commercial, running the scale from R&B-grounded cuts to near-bubblegum.
